My Student's Portrait!

Director's Poetry

This piece was written the day I lost a student to communiy violence, a week before his prom! Two days after he stated what his fate could be. Events steer people in different directions, both good and bad; I was immediately propelled to do more! This piece landed me top 10 of thousands of poets, and became publisehed  as a result of entering the contest an angry poet the day of my loss, screaming for others to help children! My low point, created a light.

I seek to go further than the last time out,
and apply volume and power to the way I shout,
My voice to the people, that a change must come,
to allow some peace for the unborn.
I should not have to scream and fight alone,
for many others see children needing help,
and dying in the streets.
Sorrows of babies and children alive haunt me,
and for that reason my heart is scorned,
so therefore, I pray for our helpless children and the unborn!
